Sensors and detectors

Sensors and detectors are devices (usually electrical) that monitor, acquire and react appropriately to an input or signal, or when a predefined threshold value is exceeded. The most common sensors are: motion sensors (very often used as part of light fixtures that come on when motion is detected near the sensor), carbon monoxide sensors, proximity sensors, dusk sensors, and limit switches.
